Elfdalian

Älvdalisch (Swedish älvdalska or älvdalsmål; älvdalisch övdalską or dalska ) is today spoken by about 3000 people in the old Swedish parish Älvdalen, the southern part of the municipality Älvdalen.

Älvdalisch was traditionally regarded as a Swedish dialect, but is now known by more and more linguists as a separate language. Contributing to several factors, including that Älvdalisch belongs to another branch of the Scandinavian languages ​​than Swedish standard, namely the Dalmål ( the Dalekarlischen ). Further, the distance between Älvdalisch and Standard Swedish is greater than the distance between Norwegian, Danish and Swedish.

Älvdalisch experiencing a revitalization process, whereby children's books appear in that language, held cultural events and language courses are offered nowadays. Älvdalisch also has a uniform standard orthography, which was founded in 2005 by Råðdjärum, the älvdalischen Sprachrat determined.
