Elfriede Eder was born in Zell am See and grew up in Leogang. Her older sisters Sylvia, who also spent many years in the World Cup went, and Birgit, who won two medals at the World Junior Championships, but had to end her career after a torn ACL early, were also ski racers. 1985 Eder won the giant slalom of the Trofeo Topolino. That same year, the then 15 -year-old was admitted to the junior squad of the Austrian Ski Federation. At the Junior World Championship 1988 in Madonna di Campiglio, she won the bronze medal in the giant slalom, but even at that time it was especially successful in the slalom. She enrolled in the season 1987/1988 the second place in the European Cup slalom standings and could decide for them in the season 1989/1990. So she found for the following winter inclusion in the Austrian Ski Federation World Cup team. After she had gone in her first World Cup season in 14th place just twice in the points, they scored in their second season 1991/1992 already has four top-10 results. After another top-10 results in the season 1992/ 1993 she finally celebrated at the 1993 World Championships in Morioka Shizukuishi by winning the bronze medal in the slalom their first major success.

In the World Cup Eder was also in the 1993/1994 season continues without podium ( best result and only top- 10 finish of the winter was the fourth place in the slalom in Maribor), but the next major event, the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, she stood Second as the slalom behind Vreni Schneider again on the podium. In the World Cup, they never could for the time being, however, provide such results, and so they went after a rather unsuccessful season 1994/1995 even in the short term on the National team in the A-team. A coaching change in the Austrian Ski Federation - Gottfried Trinkl was new technology coach of the women - then brought but still the hoped-for World Cup success and Eder won at the start of the 1995/1996 season, the two slaloms in Vail and St. Anton and before the new year is a third slalom in Semmering. With another podium places they secured early winning the slalom World Cup. With their World Cup victories Eder was one of the favorites for the Slalom World Cup in 1996 in the Sierra Nevada. After the first run, it was also considered third parties on a medal, but in the second round, they fell back to seventh overall place.

The World Cup successes of the previous year could not be repeated quite Eder in the season 1996/ 1997. She just stood again as a Second Slalom Zwiesel on the podium, but scored with four other top- five finishes at least the sixth in the slalom World Cup. At the World Cup 1997 in Sestriere they finished fifth. When her " success coach " Gottfried Trinkl was dismissed by the Austrians in the summer of 1997, Eder returned to the Austrians also the back. She wanted to continue working with Trinkl as a private coach, what was her but not conceded by the Austrian Ski Federation, which is why they sought a change of Nations, which was their first not even allows the Austrians. Only after a one-year lock she could start for the Caribbean island nation of Grenada, just before start of an Association and had to be recognized by the FIS.

After the dressing change Eder did not reach their previous level of performance in the season 1998 /1999. Your best results were two places eleventh in the slalom in Semmering and Veysonnaz.
