Eli Shukron

Eli Shukron is an Israeli archaeologist for the Israel Antiquities Authority conducted excavations in and around Jerusalem since the 1990s, along with other scientists.

Life

Shukron completed his studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is currently head of the politically controversial excavations in the so-called City of David outside the Old City of Jerusalem.

Known excavations

  • 2004: together with Ronny Reich: excavations at the Pool of Siloam, with finds from the period of the Second Temple.
  • 2007: together with Ronny Reich: sewers, by which the surface water and sewage from Jerusalem were derived.
  • 2009: together with Ronny Reich: pilgrim road that led to the Second Temple. This route is today (2012 ) partially accessible.
  • 2012: together with Ronny Reich: Discovery in the rubble of the city of David south of the city walls of the Old City of Jerusalem the remains of a bulla with the inscription seven / Bethlehem / for the king. This inscription is the first mention of the town of Bethlehem from the time of Solomon's Temple, outside the Bible.
