Elias Keyes

Elias Keyes ( born April 14, 1758 in Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut; † July 9, 1844 in Stockbridge, Vermont ) was an American politician. Between 1821 and 1823 he represented the fourth electoral district of the state of Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elias Keyes was not born in the British colonial era. He attended the common schools and then studied law. In 1785 he moved to Stockbridge in Vermont. In his new home state, he began a political career. He was a member of the founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. Between 1793 and 1796, 1798 and 1802 and the years 1818 and 1820 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Vermont. From 1803 to 1813 and again from 1815 to 1817 he served on the senior staff of the Governor.

In 1814, Keyes was a member of a meeting to revise the constitution of his country. He was also from 1803 to 1814 Associate Justice of the District Court in Windsor County. Between 1815 and 1818, he presided at this court. In 1820 he was in the fourth district of Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on March 4, 1821 the successor of William Strong. Until March 3, 1823, he completed a term in Congress. After he retired from politics.
