Elias P. Seeley

Elias Pettit Seeley ( born November 10, 1791 in Bridgeton, New Jersey; † August 23, 1846 in Trenton, New Jersey ) was an American politician and in 1833, Governor of the State of New Jersey.

Career

Elias Seeley attended the public schools of his home. After studying law, he began in Cumberland County to work as a lawyer. Politically, he was a member of the Whig party. From 1829 to 1833 he was a member of the Senate of New Jersey; in 1833 he was its vice-president. Following the resignation of Governor Samuel L. Southard, of a mandate as a U.S. Senator in Washington DC took, Seeley was determined by the Legislature as his successor, with the requirement to terminate the opened term. He was between February 27 and October 23, 1833 Governor of his state. During this time he has been able to put any permanent political accents.

After his brief governorship, he was still elected General Assembly for some legislatures in New Jersey. Elias Seeley died in August 1846., With his wife Jane Champneys he had two children.
