Elias S. Holliday

Elias Selah Holliday ( born March 5, 1842 in Aurora, Dearborn County, Indiana, † March 13, 1936 in Brazil, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1901 and 1909 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elias Holliday grew up on different farms in Indiana, Missouri and Iowa. He attended the schools of his respective home and later taught in Iowa for some time as a teacher. During the Civil War Holliday served until August 1864 in the Army of the Union. After the war he continued his own education at Hartsville College continued in Indiana. He also worked as a teacher again. After studying law in Mount Vernon and its made ​​in 1873 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in carbon in this profession. Since 1874, Holliday lived in Brazil, a town in Clay County. Between 1877 and 1880, and again in the years 1887 and 1888 he was mayor of this small town. In 1884, he also served as its legal representative; 1892 to 1896 he was a member of the local council.

Politically, Holliday member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1900 he was in the fifth electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George W. Faris on March 4, 1901. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1909 four legislative sessions. In 1908, Holliday renounced a new Congress candidacy. After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again in Brazil. In 1922, he withdrew into retirement. He died on 13 March 1936 at the age of 94 years.
