Elihu Lauterpacht

Elihu Lauterpacht, CBE ( born July 13, 1928 in Cricklewood, London) is the son of the international law expert Sir Hersch Lauterpacht and even judges in the field of international law. Lauterpacht is since 1953 a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge, where he teaches international law.

Career

Elihu Lauterpacht from 1975 to 1977 Legal adviser to the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy in this function head of the Australian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly. He was also from 1993 to 2001 ad hoc judge at the International Court of Justice in the case of Bosnia against Yugoslavia and chairman of the Eritrea / Ethiopia Boundary Commission. He is also a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). At several proceedings before the International Court of Justice, he has participated as legal counsel.

Elihu Lauterpacht was admitted as a Commander in the Order of the British Empire in 1989 and knighted in 1998. The American Society of International Law ( ASIL ) and posthumously awarded him his father in 1972 ASIL Certificate of Merit ( certificate of merit ) for their joint work as editor of the International Law Reports. In addition, the ASIL appointed him in 1993 as an honorary member and awarded him in 2005 with the Manley O. Hudson Medal for Merit in the field of Völkerrechrs their highest award. For 2013, the program of The Hague Prize for International Law was awarded.
