Heliodorus Camacho is one of twenty provinces of the Bolivian department of La Paz and is located in the western part of the department.

Location

The province is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the eastern shore of Lake Titicaca and is bordered to the northwest by the Republic of Peru, on the west by Lake Titicaca, on the south by the province Omasuyos, on the east by the province Muñecas, and to the north by the Province of Bautista Saavedra.

The province extends from about 15 ° 14 'and 15 ° 54' south latitude and 68 ° 52 ' and 69 ° 19 ' west longitude, it measures 75 km from north to south, from east to west 40 km.

47.5 percent of the population speak Spanish, 94.7 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 0.2 percent. (2001)

86.4 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 82.4 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

47.8 percent of households own a radio, a television 3.6 percent, 17.4 percent, a bicycle, a motorcycle 0.6 percent, 0.6 percent a car, 0.2 percent a refrigerator, a 0.2 percent phone.

86.2 percent of the population are Catholics, 12.9 percent are Protestant (1992).

Structure

The Heliodorus Camacho province was divided in three by 2009, since then in five counties ( bolivian: municipios ):

  • Municipio Mocomoco - 13,950 inhabitants ( 2001 census )
  • Municipio Puerto Acosta - 27,296 inhabitants (after deduction of the divided regions in 2009 Humanata and Escoma: 13,772 inhabitants)
  • Municipio Humanata - 6,447 inhabitants
  • Municipio Escoma - 7,077 inhabitants
  • Municipio Puerto Carabuco - 16,499 inhabitants
