Eliot Engel

Eliot Lance Engel ( born February 18, 1947 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and, since 1989, member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the state of New York.

Biography

Eliot Engel was born in the Bronx, New York. In 1969 he graduated at Lehman College with a Bachelor of Arts in History from. There he also received his master's degree. He also earned a degree in law at New York Law School. He then worked as a teacher at a junior high school. Prior to his election to the House of Representatives in 1989, he was twelve years a member of the New York State Assembly.

He was elected as the successor to Mario Biaggi for the nineteenth New York congressional district in the House of Representatives in 1989. He held it until 1993. Since then, he is the deputy of the seventeenth district. He followed on Jerrold Nadler represents the eighth district of since. The district is made up of parts of the Bronx, Westchester County and Rockland County. In the House, he is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He defended his seat in the subsequent election.

Angel is married to Patricia Ennis and lives in the Bronx. He is Jewish.
