Eliot Fisk

Eliot Fisk ( born August 10, 1954 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American guitarist of classical music.

Life

Fisk attended Yale University, where he studied under Ralph Kirkpatrick and Albert Fuller. In 1974, he met the legendary guitarist Andrés Segovia, as his last pupil he is, and for several years took private lessons from him. When asked about Fisk, Segovia said: "One of the most brilliant, the smartest and most talented guitarists of our time. " In 1976 he completed his studies summa cum laude. Immediately after graduation, he was commissioned to set up a department for the subject guitar at Yale.

Eliot Fisk owns the copyright to Segovia pieces that were given to him by Segovia's widow, Emilia Segovia.

Fisk is, among other winners of the International Guitar Competition in 1980.

Particularly noteworthy are his transcriptions of Paganini's Caprices 24 as well as concerts by JS Bach for the guitar. In addition to his solo performances Fisk has performed in duets with famous musicians such as flutist Paula Robison, violinist Ruggiero Ricci, and the guitarist Joe Pass.

Currently Fisk exerts a professorship at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he teaches in five languages. He is also a teacher at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He also gives master classes, including 1st Grenada ( 1998), 2nd Grenada (1999) and 3rd Grenada ( 2000). Fisk gives lessons for people who have such access could not otherwise obtain, for example, in prisons, nursing homes and churches.

On June 10, 2006 Fisk was awarded the Orden de Isabel la Católica, the highest award in Spain, for services to music in the country.

Fisk is married and lives with his wife and daughter Raquel Zaira in Salzburg and Boston.
