Elisa (Italian singer)

Elisa Toffoli ( born December 19, 1977 in Trieste ) is an Italian singer and songwriter who was known as an artist under the name Elisa.

Biography

Elisa Toffoli was in Trieste, Italy, and grew up in Monfalcone ( Gorizia), a small town in north - eastern Italy on the border with Slovenia on.

As a child she showed great interest in the arts: she danced, painted, played in the theater and wrote short stories. Her love of art was even greater when she discovered both Rudyard Kipling's poems and the lyrics by Doors frontman Jim Morrison. She soon became clear, however, that music was her way: the age of eleven she wrote her first lyrics and the melody first. Some years later, when their interest was specifically for the music, Elisa started performing with various local bands and was quickly introduced to the world of music.

As Elisa was sixteen years old, Caterina Caselli got, the owner of the record company Sugar, a demo recording of her and realized Elisha talent. They immediately arranged a trip for them to the United States to improve Elisha English and record their first album Pipes & Flowers. The album was produced by Corrado Rustici (Whitney Houston, Zucchero ) and finally published in 1997 by Caselli record company. The critics and the audience were very impressed with the young singer.

The debut album was later released in other European countries. In Italy, the album received many accolades from critics, such as the famous Targa Tenco for the best albums of the year and the " PIM ", the Italian Music Award. In addition, Elisa was offered by Eros Ramazzotti to open his concerts throughout Europe as the opening act and they took advantage of this opportunity.

2000 and published in 2001, Elisa two albums: Asil 's World and Then Comes the Sun. Asil 's World was with experimental electronic arrangements a clear step away from the debut; Album was created in collaboration with various producers. The second edition finally contained one of the biggest hits of Elisha - her first song in Italian: Luce ( tramonti a north- est), which was already known under the original English title Come speak to me. The third album again showed a return to more traditional arrangements and was characterized by the co-operation with Rustici.

A Elisa called international CD with songs of their first three albums has been published in more than twenty countries in 2002, including Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, South Africa and New Zealand.

Their fourth album Lotus was released in 2003, followed by a tour of theaters in Italy. The main theme of the CD and the tour was very different from the previous albums. It was acoustic versions of some of their older and some new acoustic songs, including cover versions of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, and Lou Reed's Femme Fatale. Lotus has sold more than 300,000 copies.

2005 Elisa flew to Los Angeles to record their fifth album, which should now be produced by Glen Ballard ( Alanis Morissette, Anastacia, Christina Aguilera ). The result was Pearl Days - ten energetic songs in collaboration with the drummer Matt Chamberlain ( Tori Amos, Macy Gray ) and guitarist Tim Pierce ( Phil Collins, Rod Stewart ) and Michael Landau ( Seal, Miles Davis). In addition, she sang at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, sang in a duet with Luciano Pavarotti for Pavarotti & Friends, played the lead role in Giovanni Sollima Opera Ellis Iceland and took a duet with Tina Turner (Teach Me Again ), with the by Elisa songs written text for the documentary All the Invisible Children ( All the Invisible Children ); a collaboration of different directors such as, among others, Spike Lee and John Woo.

Less than six months later, Elisa went back into the studio to work on another international publication, which was called Caterpillar and contains many songs by Soundtrack '96 -'06. The album was released on 20 July 2007 in various European countries. The first single ( Stay ) is dedicated to her father.

On 5 July 2007 at the Teatro del Silenzio Elisa stepped on during a concert by Andrea Bocelli and sang with him the song La Voce del Silenzio. On November 16, 2007, in Italy the live album " Soundtrack '96 -'06 " was published, which also includes a DVD of a concert of the " Soundtrack Tour".
