Elisabet Boehm

Elisabet Boehm ( born September 27, 1859 in Rastenburg than Elisabet Steppuhn, † May 30, 1943 in Halle ( Saale )), the founder of the first Agricultural housewife Association, founder of the Country Women's Organisation in Germany and thus the founder of the Country Women's Movement was general.

Life

Elisabet Boehm was born as the daughter of Gutspächters and Reichstag deputy Hermann Steppuhn in East Prussia. In 1880 she married the landowner Otto Boehm. So you belonged to the circle ostelbischer Gutsfrauen that shaped the social life at the beginning prevail. Early as the late 19th century, they recognized in social responsibility - about their personal sphere of action within the Gutsbetriebes looking out - the need for female influence within the agricultural sector. The lack of organization of women in agriculture and the quest for recognition of women's work as a mother and the farm they motivated the founding of the first agricultural housewife Association in Rastenburg in 1898 ( initially with 15 members ). Objectives of the association were to promote education and training opportunities, the recognition of domestic work as professional work, bridging the antithesis between town and country as well as practical aspects such as improving the production and marketing in agriculture.

After the founding of clubs the same objective, it was 1905 chairman of the newly formed East Prussian national association. Incurred in other parts of the empire associations joined in 1916 in the Kingdom covenant Agricultural housewife associations ( forerunner of the German Country Women's Association ) together whose president Elisabet Boehm up to 1929.

Besides her federation activities, she was particularly involved in the vocational training of women; In 1912, she founded the first agricultural school for women.
