Elisabeta Polihroniade

Elisabeta Polihroniade ( born April 24, 1935 in Bucharest as Elisabeta Ionescu) is a Romanian chess player and author. In 1960 she became International Champion, since 1982 it bears the title of a woman grandmaster. Seven times she won the title of national champion (1966, 1970-1972 and 1975-1977 ).

Life

She has a university degree in philosophy and is a trained radio and television journalist. From 1976 to 1989 she presented weekly chess programs on Romanian television. She is also editor of the chess magazine Gambit. Since 1986 she is also international chess arbiter. She led among other things the competition between Anatoly Karpov and Andrei Istrăţescu in Bucharest in 2005.
