Elisabeth of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Duchess of Saxe-Altenburg

Elisabeth of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel ( born June 23, 1593 in Wolfenbüttel, † March 25, 1650 in Altenburg ) was a princess of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel and by marriage Duchess of Saxe- Altenburg.

Life

Elizabeth was a daughter of Duke Heinrich Julius of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel (1564-1613) from his second marriage with Elizabeth (1573-1625), eldest daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark.

Elisabeth married his first wife, on 1 January 1612 Dresden Duke August of Saxony ( 1589-1615 ), the administrator of the diocese of Naumburg, the only 26 -year-old died suddenly after three years of marriage.

Elizabeth's second husband was born on October 25, 1618 in Altenburg, Duke Johann Philipp of Saxe- Altenburg ( 1597-1639 ).

Elizabeth was buried in the Church of the Brethren Altenburger, who had donated a trophy. The motto of the duchess, who was married to both a Albertiner and a Ernestiner was: All my delight is in God. By Elisabeth exists an oval gold ducat piece whose Avers her breast picture shows and on the reverse a crowned E is shown. Under the name The pious Elizabeth was a member of virtue Lichen Society.
