Elisabeth Schroedter

Elisabeth Schroedter ( born March 11, 1959 in Dresden ) is a German politician and since 1994 Member of the European Parliament for Alliance 90/The Greens.

Life

After attending the Polytechnic High School Elisabeth Schroedter completed training for medical- technical assistant, environmental consultant and educator.

Political career

Their political involvement began Elisabeth Schroedter young people in the GDR opposition movement. In 1989, she joined the civil rights movement in New Forum, which significantly helped to shape the turnaround time in the GDR.

In early 1990 she became a member of the Green Party in the GDR, which merged in December 1990 with the West German Greens. In addition, Elisabeth Schroedter was in 1991 Founder Association for green citizen moving local politics of Brandenburg, whose spokeswoman, she was for many years. She is a member of the Green League, a network of East German environmental initiatives since 1990. From 1990 to 1993, she also was a member of the municipal council of Langerwisch.

Work in the European Parliament

With the first European election for the new Länder in eastern Germany in 1994 Elisabeth Schroedter pulled a for Alliance 90/The Greens in the European Parliament, to which it belongs since then. She is a member of the Group of the Greens / Efa.

From 1994 to 1996 she was President, 1999-2004 Vice -President of the Delegation for relations with Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. She worked at this time on the Foreign Affairs Committee and redesigned the EU enlargement process. In this context, it was from 1999 to 2004 as deputy member of the Delegation to the Joint Parliamentary Committee EU-Poland actively and rapporteur for the accession process in Latvia.

Since 2004, she moved to EU integration issues. She has engaged more than before in the European regional policy and in the employment and social policy and was a member of the relevant committees. As a member of the Delegation to the EU- Republic of Moldova and a member of the Delegation for relations with Belarus remained the EU's neighborhood policy faithful.

Even after her re-election in 2009, it has remained their key activities in the European Parliament regional policy and employment and social policy faithful. She was elected Vice President of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and is there a champion of common minimum social standards in the EU. Focus their work they therefore sat where the EU sets basic rules for working conditions and social protection of workers / inside. She has worked with in the topics PWD and Working Time Directive. She is also rapporteur on Green Jobs and promoted in the context of exploiting the employment potential of a sustainable economy in the EU. At the same time it is committed to ensuring that these new employment opportunities are also good work and the dialogue between the social partners will be strengthened in the new sectors of ecological energy transition.

In the Committee on Regional Development, she works responsible for the Group of the Greens on the reform of the Funds for the period 2014-2020 and has been delegated to the working groups of the Parliament for it. You also want to bring in their preparatory work on the challenges of demographic change there. They dealt with the causes and policy mistakes that led to young people, especially young women, some regions left and leave disproportionately. This committee was also elected for gender issues to Supervisor.

Even in its current term of office, they will remain a member of the Delegation for relations with Belarus and deputy member of the Delegation to the EU- Republic of Moldova and is therefore in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Euro nest.

In the list of the party list in the Federal Delegates Conference of 8 Fabruar 2014 in Dresden, she was defeated in the nomination list to number 5 with 19.36 percent against Barbara Lochbihler. For a further list place she did not run and is thus eliminated from the European Parliament.

Elisabeth Schroedter is married and the mother of three sons.

Honors

2002 Elisabeth Schroedter was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for their commitment during the turn of 1989/90.
