Elisabeth Schwarzhaupt

Emma Sophie Elisabeth Schwarz main ( born January 7, 1901 in Frankfurt am Main, † October 30, 1986 ibid ) was a German politician ( CDU). She was from 1961 to 1966 Federal Minister for Health and the first woman who held the office of the German Federal Minister.

Education and work

After graduation in 1920 at the Victoria School Elisabeth Schwarz main studied law in Frankfurt am Main. In 1930 she was the second legal state examination. Also In 1930, the Doctorate in Law. with the work of foreign currency clauses under German law of obligations. She worked until 1932 as a consultant with a legal center for women in Frankfurt am Main. She then worked as a delegated judge in Dortmund and Frankfurt am Main. In March 1933, her dismissal was because according to a decree of the National Socialist justice minister women no longer allowed to hold the office of judge.

She was then briefly worked at the German Bund in Berlin, and finally retired in 1935 as a legal assistant at the Registry of the Evangelical Church in Berlin. In 1947 she returned to Frankfurt and then worked until 1953 at the Foreign Ministry of the Evangelical Church, most recently as a church official and director of the Protestant women's work.

Elisabeth Ebonlocke was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit on 10 December 1965 as the first woman. From 1970 to 1972 she was the first chairman of the German Women's Council. She was buried in the General Cemetery Frankfurt.

Family

Elisabeth Schwarz main was the daughter of William Black Upper School Board Main (1871-1961), who from 1921 to 1933 for the DVP belonged to the Prussian Landtag. Her mother came from a wealthy merchant family. Engaged Elizabeth Ebonlocke was a Jewish doctor who emigrated because of the prohibition first to Switzerland and then to America. Elisabeth Ebonlocke was no longer able to work together to leave Germany with him.

In the Weimar Republic, Elisabeth Schwarz main was a member of the DVP. Since 1945 she was a member of the CDU.

Member of Parliament

From 1953 to 1969 she was a member of the German Bundestag. Here she was from 1957 to 1961 deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group.

Public offices

After the general election in 1961, she was appointed on 14 November 1961 as the Minister of Public Health, led by Chancellor Konrad Adenauer government. This office she exercised under Chancellor Ludwig Erhard. On November 30, 1966, to the end of the Erhard government, she resigned from the federal government.

Honors

In honor and remembrance of the city of Frankfurt am Main in 1988 has a green area in " Elisabeth Schwarz main plant" named.
