Elisha Huntington

Elisha Huntington ( born April 9, 1795 in Topsfield, Essex County, Massachusetts, † December 13, 1865 in Lowell, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. In 1853 and 1854 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Massachusetts.

Career

Elisha Huntington attended to 1815 Dartmouth College. After a subsequent medical studies at Yale College in 1823 and was admitted to his doctor, he began in Lowell to work in this profession. Politically, he joined in the 1830s, the Whig party. In 1838 and 1839 he was chairman of the city council of Lowell and 1839-1859 six times mayor of that city. In the meantime, he also served as president of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

1853 Huntington was elected to the side of John H. Clifford to Vice- Governor of Massachusetts. This post he held 1853-1854. Yet he was assistant to the governor. He died on December 13, 1865 in Lowell.
