Elisha Lawrence

Elisha Lawrence ( * 1746, † July 23, 1799 ) was an American politician and in 1790 Acting Governor of the State of New Jersey.

Career

As early as 1788, he was Justice of the Peace in Monmouth County. He was a member of the Federalist party and the Senate of New Jersey, who was then still called New Jersey Legislative Council. Between 1789 and 1792 and again in 1795 he was vice-president of that body. In this capacity, he finished after the death of Governor William Livingston whose term of office. He was between the 25th July and the October 30, 1790 Acting Governor of New Jersey. Lawrence was also a member of the district in Monmouth County. Between 1795 and 1796 he was chairman of this committee.
