Elisha Standiford

Elisha David Standiford (* December 28, 1831 in Louisville, Kentucky; † July 26, 1887 ) was an American politician. Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elisha Standiford attended the public schools of his home and then the St. Mary's College near Lebanon. After a subsequent medical studies and his medical license, he began to practice in Louisville. But he has not practiced this profession for long. Instead, he started in agriculture and in other sectors of the economy to work. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In the years 1868 and 1871 he sat in the Senate from Kentucky.

In the congressional elections of 1872 he was in the fifth electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Boyd Winchester on March 4, 1873. Rejecting a bid again in 1874, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1875. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Standiford served 1875-1879 as president of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. He also became active in banking. Moreover, he was more involved in agriculture. Elisha Standiford died on July 26, 1887 in Louisville, and was also buried there.
