Elizabeth Maconchy

Dame Elizabeth Violet Le Fanu Maconchy DBE ( born March 19, 1907 in Broxbourne, † 11 November 1994), was an English composer of Irish descent.

Maconchy studied from 1923 to 1929 at the Royal College of Music in London among others, Ralph Vaughan Williams. Upon successful completion, she won several prizes and awards. A scholarship enabled her to stay in Prague, where one of their works on March 19, first time in 1930 - the Concertino for Piano and Chamber Orchestra - was performed. Then returned to their homeland. In 1930 she closed her marriage to William Le Fanu, from the marriage were born two daughters. Family

Maconchy was the mother of the composer Nicola LeFanu as well as the cousin and early patron of the composer Giles Swayne.
