Elizabeth McCombs

Elizabeth Reid McCombs ( born November 19, 1873 in Kaiapoi, † June 17, 1935 in Christchurch ) was a New Zealand politician and the first woman to be elected to the Parliament of New Zealand.

She grew up in Ashburton and Christchurch. Due to their older siblings, she began to be interested in socialist themes.

In Parliament, Elizabeth McCombs fought for equal pay for women and called for a change of men unemployed friendly policies and the employment of women in the police service.
