Elk County (Kansas)

Elk County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Howard. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southeast Kansas, is located in the south about 40 miles from Oklahoma and has an area of ​​1684 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Greenwood County, Wilson County, Montgomery County, Chautauqua County, Cowley County and Butler County.

History

Elk County was formed on March 3, 1875 parts of the defunct Howard County. It was named after the Elk River.
