The place is home to the leading maker Conn - Selmer Wind Instruments, Inc., a subsidiary of Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc..

In the 20th century, the Crow - Elkhart and the electric car Elcar were manufactured here.

In Elkhart Also the National NYC Railroad Museum (see 20th Century Limited and PRR Class GG1 ) and the Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary is located.
