Ellen Gilchrist
Ellen Gilchrist ( born February 20, 1935 in Vicksburg, Mississippi) is an American writer.
Life
Ellen Gilchrist is the daughter of an engineer. She spent her childhood in the Mississippi Delta [note 1] mother on the plantation of her grandfather and was given by her mother early access to literature. She married for the first time at age 19; three more marriages followed, ending all with a divorce. In 1967, she won at Millsaps College in Jackson ( Mississippi) the degree of "Bachelor of Arts" in philosophy. From 1976 to 1979 she worked at the " Vieux Carre Courier", a newspaper in New Orleans. In 1976 she took up a post -graduate degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and began composing literary texts. After a first volume of poetry published by it since the eighties in rapid succession story books and novels that play mostly in the southern states and often portray a very lively and humorous way episodes from the life of the fictional extended family Manning. From 1984 to 1985, Ellen Gilchrist news editor and commentator at the " National Public Radio" in Washington, DC. Ellen Gilchrist is a member of the Authors Guild.
