Ellen Hansell

Ellen Forde Hansell Allerdice ( born September 18, 1869 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † May 11, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) was an American tennis player.

Life

Ellen Hansell, who suffered in their childhood anemia, won in 1887 as 17 -year-old the first edition of the American Tennis Championships of the ladies. In the final, the then discharged in her hometown of Philadelphia competition she beat her compatriot Laura Knight clearly with 6:1 and 6:0. The following year, she succumbed in the Challenge Round Bertha Townsend 3:6 and 5:6 and not more then joined to at tennis tournaments.

She died in 1937 at the age of 67 years in Pittsburgh. In 1965 she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of tennis.
