Ellen Kean

Ellen Tree, actually Eleonora Tree (* December 12, 1805; † August 20, 1880 in London) was a British actress.

Tree was the daughter of an official of the British East India Company; she had three sisters, all actresses were also.

At age 17, Tree 1822 Olivia was in the comedy " Twelfth Night" ( William Shakespeare) successful debut. Then they had several engagements in various smaller provincial theaters. But only when she was in 1826 a member of the ensemble of Drury Lane Theatre, she could celebrate her artistic breakthrough.

Then Tree was engaged at the theater in the Haymarket, where she excelled as well. There was a big concert tour through Germany and the USA. In 1842 she married her colleague, the actor Charles Kean. When her husband died in 1868, she retired from the stage and settled in Bayswater ( London) down. She lived there until her death on 20 August 1880. Their final resting place she found next to her husband in the cemetery of Catherington, Hampshire.
