Ellen Plessow

Ellen Plessow (actually: Helene Wiemuth, born Penning, born January 12, 1891 in Oldenburg, † September 2, 1967 in Berlin) was a German actress.

Life

The daughter of a pharmacist completed her acting training at the conservatory in Hanover, and made ​​her debut in 1910 at the New Theatre in Mainz. The following year she was already on the Berlin stage. Since the 1920s, also in the medium of film work, they initially played in mostly comical or quirky roles in German silent films.

After the war, she was still mostly employed as an actress at the Berlin theaters as well as in many East German DEFA films in roles of older women. Her most famous film tasks include, among others, the literary adaptation Corinna Schmidt, the DEFA fairy tale film The Brave Little Tailor or Lessing 's Emilia Galotti filming.

In the first years after 1945 she directed a short time the branch Spremberg Volksbühne of Brandenburg.
