Ellery Albee Hibbard

Ellery Albee Hibbard ( born July 31, 1826 in St. Johnsbury, Caledonia County, Vermont; † July 24, 1903 in Laconia, New Hampshire ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the State of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

After a good primary education Hibbard studied in Haverhill and Exeter ( New Hampshire) Jura. In 1849 he was admitted to the bar. He then began to practice in his new profession in Plymouth. In 1853 he moved his residence and his law firm to Laconia. Hibbard was a member of the Democratic Party. In the years 1852-1854 he was an administrative clerk in the House of Representatives from New Hampshire. From 1865 to 1866 he was deputy even in this chamber.

1870 Hibbard was elected in the first district of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he entered on March 4, 1871, the succession of Republican Jacob Hart Ela. But since he lost to William B. Small already in the elections of 1872, Hibbard was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1873. Between 1873 and 1874 he was a judge at the New Hampshire Supreme Court He then worked again as a private lawyer. He was also director of the Laconia National Bank and a member of the school board of his home town Laconia. There Hibbard died on 24 July 1903.
