Ellgau

Ellgau is a municipality in the Swabian district of Augsburg and a member of the administrative community north village.

Geographical Location

Ellgau, approximately 25 kilometers north of Augsburg, close to the river Lech, and about 15 kilometers south of the town of Donauwörth.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1126. She changed over the centuries several times the possession, until it was bought in 1753 by the Fugger family. Since the Imperial Diet of 1803 the place belonged to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in the Kingdom of Bavaria was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Being close to Lech Ellgau had significance for the Flößereiwesen. There was a dock for timber transportation. Their significance for the place is reflected in the coat of arms of the municipality, on which a wooden raft is displayed on a river.
