Elliott W. Sproul

Elliott Wilford Sproul (* December 28, 1856 at Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada, † June 22, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1921 and 1931 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elliott Sproul attended the public schools of his Canadian home. In 1879 he first came to Boston in Massachusetts and then in 1880 to Chicago, where he worked in the construction industry. In 1886 he became an American citizen. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1896 and 1899 he was a member of the City Council of Chicago. In June 1920 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago, was nominated at the Warren G. Harding as their presidential candidate. Between 1919 and 1921 he was a board member of the Chicago Public Library.

In the congressional elections of 1920 Sproul was in the third electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William W. Wilson on March 4, 1921. After four elections he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1931 five legislative sessions. In 1930 he was not re-elected. Elliott Sproul died on June 22, 1935 in Chicago, where he was also buried.
