Profile projectors can obtain the focus of a projection region by use of a double lens system. The demarcation of the dark areas is precise and exact.

There are profile headlights with manual and automatic focus on the market. Versions with automatic focus have, most likely, color wheels or gobo for projecting patterns and figures with sharp delimitation.

The development of simple profile headlights are scanners and moving heads.

In principle, but a profile is a projection device that has the same optical construction as each slide projector, film projector or video projector. It consists of (in order of the origin of the light to the exit from the device ):

• Light source
• Condenser
• Support for the projection object
• Projection lens

Mechanically, the profile spotlights mainly composed of lamp house with light source and condenser and the tube with object - carrier and projection lens. The latter can be fixed focal length ( only one lens, mobile ) or with variable focal length ( two lenses, each other and move to the object - " zoom lens " ) to be executed.

The object support includes the recordings for the four shutter panels ( to limit the light cone ), usually for an iris as well as higher-quality devices in addition also for so-called gobos ( punched or cut into sheet metal projection templates). Basically, painted on glass slides or templates could be used here; the quality of the projection will be but mostly inadequate.

Use

Is used the profile headlights

• To produce a sharply defined light cone
• For limiting the cone of light with sharp edges
• For projecting a graphic object
• To illuminate from a distance while avoiding stray light
• In specific embodiments as a Followspot

The light distribution within the light cone is fairly evenly without clear focus, which is why the quality of light depending on the application may have a slight bit flat. For this reason, a use for uses other than those listed above is not recommended.
