Ellis County (Oklahoma)

Ellis County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Arnett.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Oklahoma, on the west by Texas and has an area of ​​3190 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Harper County, Woodward County, Dewey County, Roger Mills County, Hemphill County ( Texas), Lipscomb County ( Texas) and Beaver County.

History

Ellis County was formed on July 16, 1907 from parts of the nonexistent Day County and Woodward County. It was named after Abraham H. Ellis, President of the Constituent Assembly ( " Constitunional Convention " ) of Oklahoma. The County ( Oklahoma Land Run ) was settled by white settlers during the third official land ownership acquisition of 19 April 1892.
