Ellon, Aberdeenshire

Ellon (Gaelic: Ealain ) is a town in the Scottish unitary authority Aberdeenshire. It is located about 20 km north of Aberdeen and 20 km southwest of Peterhead on the Ythan. In 2001, Ellon recorded 8754 inhabitants. Ellon has been growing for several decades very quickly. So lived there in 1951, only 1491 people.

Ellon was market performance and jurisdiction in the former province of Buchan. During the Scottish Wars of Independence, there was the Clan Cumming on Buchan. As part of the harrying of Buchan in 1308, the men of the attacking Robert the Bruce Ellon burned down. In the 19th century, Ellon was a regional trade center.

Ellon is located on the A90 between Aberdeen and Fraserburgh. In the A90 Balmedie tapered from four to two lanes. However, there are plans the road another eight miles to the south of Ellon expand to four lanes. To the west, the A948 leads the A920 Oldmeldrum about direction Huntly, north-west to New Deer.
