Ellsworth Vines

Henry Ellsworth " Elly " Vines Jr. ( born September 28, 1911 in Los Angeles, California, † March 17, 1994 in La Quinta, California ) was an American tennis player.

Career

In 1933 he became a professional tennis player, after he had won the U.S. Championships, now U.S. Open (1931, 1932), and Wimbledon ( 1932). He is counted among the best tennis players of all time. With the American team, he also won the 1933 Davis Cup. After his career as a tennis player, he was a pro golfer and was able to win a tournament on the U.S. professional series.

In 1962 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of tennis.
