Elmer Lach

Elmer James Lach ( born January 22, 1918 in Nokomis, Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played from 1940 to 1954 for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League.

Career

Lach was the playmaker of the legendary " Punchline " the Montreal Canadiens. Along with Maurice Richard and Toe Blake, they achieved more than 700 points in four and a half years. He had especially excellent defensive qualities, that he was very dangerous but also forward proved his 2 years as top scorer. Also in the year in which this is the first time the Art Ross Trophy was awarded, Lach led to this rating. 1944, 1946 and 1953, he won the Stanley Cup three times.

In 1966 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. His shirt number was closed on 4 December 2009 on the day of the 100th anniversary of the Canadiens, prior to the game against the Boston Bruins, after a ceremony held by the club.
