Elmore County (Alabama)

The Elmore County is a county located in the U.S. state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wetumpka.

Geography

The County is located southeast of the geographic center of Alabama and has an area of ​​1702 square kilometers, of which 93 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Tallapoosa County, Macon County, Montgomery County, Autauga County, Chilton County and Coosa County.

History

Elmore County was formed on February 15, 1866 from parts of Autauga County, the Coosa County, Montgomery County and Tallapoosa County. It was named after General John Archer Elmore, a hero of the American Revolution and the early settlers in this area. Already built here in 1717, the French Fort Toulouse in the fight against the Indians, which was conquered in 1814 by General Andrew Jackson, and renamed Fort Jackson, followed by the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.
