Elmstein

Elmstein is a municipality in the district of Bad Durkheim in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Lambrecht (Pfalz ).

Geography

The local church is surrounded by the Palatinate Forest. It consists of the eponymous place Elmstein and the hamlets Appenthal, Erlenbach, Harzofen, Helmbach, Iggelbach, Mückenwiese, Röder valley sheep farm, Swabia Bach, Schwarzenbach, Silent Valley, Speyerbrunn and wolf pit.

Neighboring communities or forest districts are clockwise Waldleiningen, Weidenthal, Esthal, exclave of Kirrweiler (Pfalz ) exclave of Venningen, exclave of Rhodt, exclave of Edesheim exclave of Landau in der Pfalz, Wilgartswiesen, Tripp city and Kaiserslautern.

Elmstein itself and some of its districts are traversed by Speyerbach other districts of its tributaries, is the strongest of Helmbach.

History

Chronicle

The main town dates back to the medieval castle Elmstein which is above located on the southwestern slope of the 458 meter high castle hill and the 12th/13th. Century was built by the Count Palatine of the Rhine. The districts later emerged mostly as expanding settlements for forest workers, as the site of a sawmill or Röder Thal as a mining camp.

On January 1, 1976, a municipality with 207 inhabitants part of the community Wilgartswiesen after Elmstein was umgemeindet.

Religion

2013 were 48 percent of the population Protestant and 30 percent Catholic. Feature is the Free Religious congregation, founded in 1921, which is the second largest municipality in the Free Religious Palatinate with about 5 percent of the local population. The rest belonged to other religions or were non-denominational.

The local council in Elmstein consists of 20 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: " Argent, two crossed red double hook, bewinkelt of four six-pointed gold stars ."

It was approved in 1937 by Reich Governor in Bavaria and is based on a seal of 1772. Forestry hook point to the location of Elmstein middle of the forest and forestry.

  • Artists' colony (similar to Worpswede and Darmstadt), built in 1973 in Appenthal. Three houses ( of 13) privately owned by artists ( inlaid art, painting, pottery ).

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

From Lambrecht from the museum railway Kuckucksbähnel goes to Elmstein. The community is accessible by car on the country road 499 from ( locust Cross or Frankeneck ) from. In addition, a bus connection with the line 517 ( Neustadt on the Wine Route - Iggelbach ) exists. The journey by bus takes about 1 hour.

Because of many motorcycle accidents in the past, the road through the valley Elmsteiner ( locust cross - Elmstein - Lambrecht ) is locked on weekends and holidays during the summer months ( April to October ) for the motorcycle traffic; only residents - not residents - may be driven with a motorcycle route during the reclaim time.

2011 Elmstein was included as one of 20 municipalities in Rhineland -Palatinate in the village renewal program.
