Elmwood Park is a place in Cook County in the U.S. state of Illinois, about 16 miles west of the Chicago Loop and southeast of the Leyden townships between Chicago and the Des Plaines River.

History

In the 1840s, were the first settlers farmers in the area around the present-day village, which was then still called Orison. The laying of tracks by the Chicago & Pacific Railroad attracted speculators, buying up smaller farms which and the area for the development of housing estates prepared. With the displacement of agriculture, the town was renamed in Elmwood Park. and in 1914 formally established. The first mayor was Merritt Marwood.

In the years 1920-1928 the town was developed. It has built a school, churches, and a community center. The population grew steadily. So lived after the Second World War 18801 and in 1971 lived for more than 27,000 inhabitants in the town.

Demography

According to the census in the year 2010 24883 inhabitants lived in the town. 20.8% of the population was younger than 18 years, 13.9% were older than 65 years.
