Ã‰loyes

Éloyes is a commune with 3277 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of the canton of Epinal and Remiremont.

Geography

The industrial community Éloyes located on both sides of the upper Moselle, between the towns of Epinal and Remiremont in the southeast of Lorraine.

The territory of Éloyes extends from the Moselle valley, this is up to 1,500 feet wide, towards the east to the western foothills of the Vosges. With 783 meters above the sea of Tête de Cuveaux is the highest point in the district Éloyes. The mountain has a lookout tower. From the mountain side Ruisseau de la Borne Martin and Ruisseau du ramier flow into the Moselle, the latter forms part of the municipal border with Saint- Étienne- lès- Remiremont. West of the Moselle valley, the land rises to a distinctive level to 150 meters.

The lower areas in the Moselle valley of the municipality area are dominated by residential and commercial areas. South of the village core The terrain allows for the agricultural use of the land. On the slopes to pasture adjoins. The densely forested, higher -lying area in the east of the municipality is part of the Forêt de Fossard, which is part of a 150 -square-mile contiguous forest.

Éloyes itself is separated by the River Moselle in two parts. The old town center with the church is on the right, the eastern bank of the Moselle, the western part is bounded by a loop of the Moselle river on three sides. This part of the resort is recent and mainly consists of residential and commercial areas.

Neighboring communities of Éloyes are Jarménil in the north, Xamontarupt in the northeast, Tendon in the east, Saint- Étienne- lès- Remiremont and Saint- Nabord in the south and Pouxeux in the West.

History

The name originated Éloyes loye from Old French ez, which as much as the water is lying.

Shell stones and dolmens in the area of Tête de Cuveaux suggest an early settlement of the territory of West Vosges.

In the time of the Ancien Régime Éloyes owned by the Dukes of Lorraine, 1751-1790 Chapter of the Remiremont. From 1790 Éloyes was the capital of a newly created, the same canton, which was disbanded in 1801.

Instead of an older church, built in 1624, which was derelict, was started in 1831 with the construction of the present church l' Assomption de Notre -Dame.

The population of the municipality Éloyes is at an approximately constant level since the 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculture and Fortstwirtschaft play as in the other municipalities between Epinal and Remiremont today only a subordinate role. In addition to the traditional wood and paper industry ( Velinpapierherstellung ), smaller craft and commercial enterprises have settled.

In the industrial park ( industrial zone ) de la Plaine in the south of Éloyes many employed workers commute from the neighboring communities. Among the larger companies in Éloyes include:

Glaces Thiriet - the third largest French manufacturer of ice cream
A spinoff of Plastigray group ( manufacture of plastic injection molding)
Tenthoray SA, headquartered since 1906 textile companies
A spinoff of the Japanese optic medical and office equipment manufacturer Konica Minolta

Transport links

By Éloyes run parallel to the Moselle, the two-lane national highway 57 and the D 157 (both from Epinal Remiremont ). About the 670 meter high Col de Bisoire is a road of Éloyes in the neighboring community Tendon. The breakpoint is located on the Éloyes also the Moselle valley following line Nancy- Epinal - Remiremont, which is operated by the Company TER Lorraine.
