Elpe at Ostwig

The Elpe is a 18.7 km long, orographic left tributary of the Ruhr in North Rhine - Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis, Germany.

Geography

The Elpe rises south of Old Field ( Winterberg) and about 2.2 km south-west of Siedlinghausen at the northeast saddle between Lansenberg (732 m) and Hardt ( 761 m) at an altitude of 615 m above sea level. NN on Schmallenberger area. From here it flows mainly in northern directions, flows belonging to the winter mountain resort and the old field belonging to Olsberg Elpe to enable the flow through the hamlet of Bestwig Ostwig left side to 296 m above sea level. NN to open into the Ruhr.

At a flow length of 18.7 km and thereby overcome altitude difference of 319 m, the average bed slope is 17.1 ‰. The 34.381 km ² large catchment area is drained by Ruhr and Rhine to the North Sea through.

In waters directory of North Rhine -Westphalia, the length of Elpe is specified at 18.7 km. Here, in the upper reaches of the 3.9 km long Walbecke instead of a 1.7 km long as Elpe designated watercourse, used for the length.
