Elsa Respighi

Elsa Respighi, born Olivieri- Sangiacomo ( born March 24, 1894 in Rome, † March 17, 1996 ibid ) was an Italian singer and composer.

Life

Elsa Olivieri- Sangiacomo studied the piano with Giovanni Sgambati, harmony and counterpoint with Remigio Renzi and composition with Ottorino Respighi, whom she married in 1919. With her husband as a piano accompanist she undertook in the following years, numerous concert tours on which they also brought works by Respighi premiered. Your own compositional activity they were in favor of her husband's career to a large extent.

After Respighi's early death, she devoted herself to the care of his intense musical heritage. She has published books, organized conferences, performances, recordings and editions of his music, completed and transcribed individual works and founded in Venice the Fondo Respighi to promote musical education in Italy. Two own operas, which she wrote after Respighi's death, remained unperformed until today.
