Else Gentner-Fischer

Else Gentner - Fischer ( born September 5, 1883 in Frankfurt am Main, † April 26, 1943 in Prien am Chiemsee ) was a German opera singer.

Life

The daughter of a barber studied at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt and made his debut in Mannheim. 1906 appointed the Frankfurt director Emil Claar them together with her first husband, the tenor Karl Gentner ( 1876-1922 ), the Frankfurt Opera, where she remained throughout their career and with her unusually large repertoire of around 130 roles was a crowd favorite. Initially they started with operetta roles, later she moved to the teen - drama specialist as a soprano. In her later years she became more and more highly dramatic roles as a mezzo- soprano.

For their outstanding roles included Aida, Carmen, Donna Anna, the Marschallin, Santuzza and Tosca. Even in modern operas by Hindemith, Korngold, Schoenberg, Schreker and Weill they wowed the audience. Several calls to other platforms, including in Munich and Vienna, she refused.

1935 had Gentner -Fischer from the stage to resign because her second husband, the baritone Benno Ziegler, was a Jew. On June 23, 1935 she gave her farewell performance in the role of Isolde. She considered from time to time to convert to Judaism, but it could be dissuaded from Frankfurt rabbi Georg Berger salt. Her husband emigrated to England alone, while they remained in Germany.
