Elsnig

Elsnig is a municipality in the northeast of the county North Saxony, Saxony ( Germany ). It belongs to the administrative community Dommitzsch.

Location

Elsnig is situated in the floodplain on the western banks of the Elbe and the control of the river and the oxbow lakes Weinske the same. The district is located in the Elbe floodplain on alluvial and outside of this site usually on sand. The B182 and the disused railway line Pretzschendorf - Torgau through the village and the hamlets Elsnig cutting, forest settlement and birdsong. The town of Torgau is located about 8 km southeast of the city and Dommitzsch about 5 km north-west of the church. The municipality is located on the eastern edge of the Natural Park Duebener Heath.

History

The street village was first mentioned in documents 965. The name was 965 Olsnic and has been called Elsnig 1368. In between, there were minor deviations. From 1500 to 2001 the village had a parish church. Frederick the Great lingered for a tour of the church on November 3, 1760 in the village. Here he received the news of the victory of the Prussians over the Austrians. The hallway had 1895 787 acres of land, which was cultivated by farmers. The farmers of the predominantly agricultural village went after 1945 the way the East German agriculture.

In the 1930s, a munitions factory was built at the WASAG Elsnig. In the course of which the forest settlement arose. The factory was partially dismantled after the Second World War and the area re-used for up to the turn of the National People's Army. In a pilot project, the environmental damage caused by the former WASAG work, in particular the pollution by the harmful substances TNT and 2,6- DNT was tried from 2003 to eliminate.
