Elution

Elution or elution (from the Latin eluere " wash out " ) refers to the decrease or leaching of substances from a stationary phase, which may consist of both solid and of liquid material. In this case, a mobile phase (eluent ), which consists of one or more solvents, is guided past the stationary phase. The discharged mixture of solvents and solutes is the eluate. Of particular importance is the process by elution of the chromatography, preparative gel electrophoresis and in the production of radionuclides by means of radionuclide (such as gallium -68 ) generator.
