Elven Webb

Elven Webb ( born August 29, 1910 in England; † September 1979 in London) was a British art director and production designer, who once won the Academy Award for Best Production Design, and again was nominated for the Oscar.

Life

Webb began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1944 with the film The Way Ahead and participated until 1970 at the scenic features of nearly thirty films.

In 1964 he won with John DeCuir, Jack Martin Smith, Hilyard M. Brown, Herman A. Blumenthal, Maurice Pelling, Boris Juraga, Walter M. Scott, Paul S. Fox and Ray Moyer Academy Award for Best Production Design in a color film, namely for the epic film Cleopatra (1963 ) by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison in the lead roles.

At the Academy Awards in 1968, he was nominated DeCuir, Lorenzo Mongiardino, Dario Simoni, Giuseppe Mariani and Luigi Gervasi for an Academy Award for Best Production Design and indeed for The Taming of the Shrew (1967 ) after the eponymous stage play by William Shakespeare, directed by Franco Zeffirelli with Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Cyril Cusack.
