Elvira of Castile, Queen of Sicily

Elvira of Castile (* 1100, † February 8, 1135 ) was the first wife of Roger II of Sicily and thus first Countess from 1130 and Queen of Sicily.

Elvira was a daughter of King Alfonso VI. of Castile. 1117 or 1118, she married Roger II, Count and later King of Sicily.

Together they had six children, five sons and one daughter. The eldest son Roger was born in 1118. 1130 he was appointed Duke of Apulia. There followed a short distance Tancred, Prince of Bari, was Alfonso, Duke of Capua was, and Wilhelm ( * 1122), who was King William I of Sicily. Later another son, Henry, and a daughter, Adelheid followed.

Elvira died at the age of about 35 years early February 1135th Death Elvira was Roger so close that he married again only 14 years later, when William lived only by his five sons.
