Elvis Mitchell

Elvis Mitchell (born 1958 in Highland Park, Michigan ) is an American film critic, journalist and presenter.

Life

Elvis Mitchell was born in Highland Park, near Detroit. After graduating in 1980 from Wayne State University in English, it was relatively fast film critic and wrote for magazines such as Fort Worth Star-Telegram, LA Weekly, Detroit Free Press and the New York Times.

In the late 1980s he worked on the PBS television with his short-lived show The Edge, in which he afforded general and special movie reviews, as well as a moderator. Since 1996 he has with his own radio show The Treatment on KCRW, which is both broadcast nationwide and via podcast. In addition, he also appeared frequently on the program Weekend Edition of the radio station NPR as a commentator and critic of Cultural Affairs on.

After Janet Maslin resigned at the end of 1999 as chief film critic for The New York Times, he was her successor. He was replaced by the new double peak around AO Scott and Manohla Dargis in 2004. In parallel, he was a frequent lecturer at the prestigious Harvard University.

In the summer of 2011 it was announced that Mitchell was hired as curator of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to present a film series on the Independent Film.
