Elze

Elze is a town of 8,868 inhabitants in the west of the district of Hildesheim, which is in the area of the metropolitan region of Hannover -Braunschweig- Göttingen in southern Lower Saxony. Elze is a member of Leinebergland region, a company incorporated under the Leader approach voluntary union of several towns and cities in southern Lower Saxony.

The city is situated on the river Saale, a tributary of the leash. The old town is characterized by half-timbered houses from the 16th and 17th centuries.

City Elze

Geographical Location

The city is located west of Hildesheim on the northern edge of the Lower Saxon highlands overlooking the North German Plain, the castle Marienburg, the Poppenburg and the monastery church in Wittenburg.

Town History

Humans settled in Elze Even before the year 800. At the time of Charlemagne the place Aula Caesaris ( " Imperial ") was, in short Aulica, hence the name Aulze and Elze developed. Elze was for about 800 of the seat of the Great founded by Karl Bishopric for Ostfalen under the patronage of the Apostles Peter and Paul, still appear in the name of the Protestant church and in the local coat of arms. Even the Catholic Church of 1936/1953 is reminiscent of that tradition. Louis the Pious moved the episcopal seat 815 to Hildesheim and placed it under the protection of the Virgin Mary.

On the evening of November 18, 1824 three-quarters of the city were destroyed by fire and then rebuilt.

On March 1, 1974, the surrounding villages Esbeck flour, Sehlde, Sorsum, Wittenburg and Wülfingen were incorporated in the course of municipal reform.

Coat of arms

Blazon: " Azure, standing side by side the golden haloed and silver clad Saints Peter and Paul, each with a red book in his left hand; in his right hand holds a gold key Peter, Paul, a silver sword with a golden hilt. In front of them a black sign with silver oblique beams, in a red stages oblique bar ". On memorials and local seals from the 16th century have been the two saints Peter and Paul to see. Since the middle of the 17th century, has become as Elze city, both represented in the shield sitting facing each other, while the Saints are separated from the city colors silver and blue shield in the 19th century. 1939 the black shield was inserted with the steps oblique beams, which was the coat of arms of the lords of Elze in the local coat of arms. In its present form it exists, by the permission of the Minister of the Interior since 1956.

Transport links

The city is a traffic hub on the railway lines Hannover- Göttingen ( " Hanoverian Southern Railway " ) and Hameln -Hildesheim ( " Weser Railway" ). The connection of the districts among themselves and with neighboring villages take several intercity and city bus lines of the two regional transport Hildesheim GmbH ( RVHi ). Some industries have settled on the railway line to the east of the city. In Elze the B3 and B1 intersect.

On the railway line, but located northwest of the city, there is the St. Christopher's School " Youth Village Elze ". The state-recognized high school is one of the the Protestant church related Christian Youth Village in Germany ( CJD), and contains an operating school with boarding facilities and sports facilities, a music school, a kindergarten and a riding stable. Finally, the Elzer sports and health center of CJD Elze was built and completed, the new sports hall is the beauty of the facility.

The Kruger Adorno School is a primary and junior high school, which is from the Gauss-Krueger - Realschule and T. W. Adorno school, secondary school with orientation stage emerged.

Sight

Nature reserve " Leineaue under the Rammelsberg "

The nature reserve Leineaue under the Rammelsberg is between Gronau (Leine) and Elze and represents a section of the middle reaches of the leash with their Aue and parts of the slopes of the Great Uthberges and Rammelsberg in the East under protection. The periodically flooded lowlands are dominated by the meandering river with oxbow lakes and flood channels. The line is often accompanied by lowland forest remnants. In addition, are wetlands and perennial rich fallow land to find. The companies included in the conservation area slopes are dominated by forests and bushes as well as remains of nutrient-poor grasslands and orchards.

Explanation of the name

Old names of the place are Aluchi 826-876, 1068 Alicga, 1135 Aulica 1151 Alitse, 1160 and 1204 Eleze Elze. For the place name two strands of tradition stand side by side: " Aulica / Aulika " and " Alitse, Eleze, Eletse, Elze ". In " Aulica, Aulika " is obviously a Latinization of " aula " for " Hall, Prince Hall " before. The second tradition strand is probably the Germanic word " ulin " " lazy, humid, musty " for the foundation.

District Elze

Culture and sights

In Elze there is a local history museum, a city park, outdoor pool and several sports facilities. Overall exist in Elze 45 clubs and associations.

Interesting is, inter alia, the station Elze, which was built in 1853-1854 by architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase in brick and round arch style.

Churches

In Elze the Evangelical Lutheran Peter and Paul Church on the main street, the Catholic Church of St. Peter are to the chains at the Forge Torstraße and Apostolic Church on Draustweg. (see also story)

Every May 1, the local association of Elze Technical Relief ( THW) to the Elzer Maypole.
Every 2nd Year will open the fair on Elzer Elzer school center for a weekend.
Every third year there is the traditional soap box derby for children.
Every year at the end of the summer holidays, the youth concert "Rock in the bathroom " instead, in which several groups playing music on a stage, with the audience at the same time can swim at night.
