Elzweiler

Elzweiler is a municipality in the district of Kusel, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Altenglan.

Geography

The place is located in the western Palatinate. In the southwest is Welchweiler, northeast Horschbach.

History

Elzweiler is probably a Frankish establishment. Later it was Reichsland and arrived in 1350 under the rule of the game count. From the mid-16th century it belonged to Palatinate -Zweibrücken. The old city walls are still recognizable. After the Thirty Years' War Elzweiler was abandoned as a settlement and became a deserted village. Elzweiler was only in 1710 resettled.

Parish council

The local council in Elzweiler consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The red lion on a golden background symbolizes the Wildgrafen than earlier rulers of Elzweiler and makes a reference to local history. The golden anchor on a blue background goes back to an old but not received seal of the municipality.

Economy and infrastructure

Elzweiler is a commuter town. In the southwest is the A 62 in Altenglan is a station on the railway line Landstuhl - Kusel.
