Emanuel County, Georgia

The Emanuel County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Swainsboro, which was named after Colonel Stephen Swain.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Georgia, is in the northeast about 70 miles from South Carolina and in the southeast about 140 km from the Atlantic. It has an area of ​​1788 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Burke County, Jenkins County, Bulloch County, Candler County, Toombs County, Treutlen County, Johnson County and Jefferson County.

History

Emanuel County was formed on December 10, 1812. It was named after David Emanuel, a governor of Georgia. The the county seat, Swainsboro, was renamed in Paris shortly after the formation of the County, but then converted back to Swainsboro.
